Event Photography at the House of Lords: Afternoon Tea

Experience the elegance of afternoon tea at the House of Lords through event photography, capturing candid moments, dignitaries’ speeches, and stunning group shots against the backdrop of the river Thames.

As an experienced event photographer at the House of Lords in London, I’ve been lucky to capture a variety of occasions, from formal corporate events to cultural gatherings. One of the most memorable events I’ve photographed is the classic British tradition of afternoon tea. These gatherings, set within the historic walls of this iconic institution, combine elegance, history, and warm hospitality. In this post, I’ll share highlights from an afternoon tea I photographed at the House of Lords, showcasing the venue and its guests through candid event photography.

The House of Lords: A Stunning Setting for Event Photography

The House of Lords is a breathtaking venue, and it’s the perfect backdrop for any event—especially afternoon tea (see Figures 1 & 2). For example, the Cholmondeley Room and the riverside terrace take this timeless tradition to a new level. My photos focused on the stunning surroundings and the cheerful atmosphere among guests. In particular, one of my favourite shots shows guests laughing together on the terrace, with the River Thames creating a picturesque background.

Capturing Guests Enjoying the Moment

The best part of event photography is capturing people’s expressions and interactions (see Figures 3 & 4). Afternoon tea at the House of Lords often brings together a mix of dignitaries, professionals, and friends. Indeed, it’s a joy to photograph guests chatting and laughing over tea, immersed in the moment (see Figure 5).

One highlight of these social events is when dignitaries deliver heartfelt speeches (see Figure 6). Furthermore, these moments add purpose and meaning to the gathering, and I aim to capture the speakers’ expressions and the audience’s engagement. Consequently, capturing these moments creates memories that attendees will treasure.

Timeless Group Photos Inside the House of Lords

The House of Lords, without a doubt, offers a magnificent setting for group photos (see Figures 7 & 8). The decor adds a sense of distinction to every shot. As a result, these group shots capture the essence of the event, combining the venue’s grandeur with the warmth of shared moments.
